Great Bend

The Susquehanna River makes a great bend on its way from Cooperstown, NY to the Chesapeake Bay, dipping into Pennsylvania for the first time in Susquehanna County, thus giving this trail its name.

Great Bend, Pennsylvania is one of the river towns in the northern branch of the Susquehanna that draws people for the beauty of the Susquehanna. Enjoy your paddle downriver and learn more about the history of the area by stopping at one or more of the points of interest.

Dam at mile 350.5 at the Susquehanna Depot

  • Portage around the dam is at the Susquehanna Depot Municipal Access (41.0159 N, 75.0101 W)

Alternate route to avoid the dam:

  •  Front Street Private Access mile 350.5 (41.0158 N, 75.0103 W) to Hallstead 342.5 (41.0161 N, 75.0124 W)
